NHS Wales - Trainee Clinical Scientists, Audiology

The NHS in Wales is offering 6 salaried post-graduate training programmes in Audiology for high-calibre science graduates passionate about science and its role in patient care.
The Trainee Clinical Scientist will be employed by the host organisation for a fixed term of three years, working through a work-based programme of learning combined with an academic programme at masters (MSc) level, including a research project in years 2/3.
Main duties of the job
Audiology involves identifying, assessing and managing hearing and balance function and their associated disorders. Clinical Scientists in Audiology work in patient-facing roles engaging with patients of all ages as part of a team. The primary activities include paediatrics, diagnostics, and rehabilitation (including surgically implantable devices). The role combines scientific, technological, clinical, and communication skills, with a focus on leadership, innovation, and research to improve patient outcomes.

The academic component includes block release to Manchester University over three years. Welsh language skills are desirable; both Welsh and English speakers are encouraged to apply.
Working for our organisation
This is a three-year postgraduate programme. Successful candidates will be employed by an NHS Wales organisation and based at one of the specified locations, such as Royal Gwent Hospital, Glan Clwyd Hospital, Gwynedd Hospital, Royal Glamorgan Hospital, University Hospital of Wales, or Singleton Hospital.
Applicants must specify preferred training centre(s) in their application. The training is aligned with the Scientific Training Programme and supported by the National School of Healthcare Science. Posts commence in September 2025.

* Honours degree (1st or 2.1) in a relevant science; MSc or PhD preferred for 2.2 degrees.
