Prospero Teaching are seeking a caring and dedicated Communication Support Buddy to help students access education with confidence and independence. This role will be based within our client SEN specialist school based in Lyndhurst.
About the Role As a Communication Support Buddy, you will play a vital role in supporting students with their communication needs, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and empowered in their learning. While knowledge of hearing loss is beneficial, full training and support will be provided-enthusiasm and commitment matter most!
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored sign language or Makaton support to meet individual student needs.
2. Encourage engagement in both classroom and small group settings, reinforcing learning through communication support.
3. Promote independence and build confidence in academic and social environments.
4. Champion inclusion by leading sign language clubs, introducing a ‘sign of the week,’ and fostering a culture of communication.
What We’re Looking For:
5. British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 or above OR Makaton Level 2 or above, with a willingness to further develop your skills.
6. Passion for supporting students with communication needs.
7. Commitment to creating a supportive and accessible learning environment.
8. Ability to work collaboratively within a specialist provision.
Support & Training Provided: You will receive dedicated guidance from the Teacher in Charge of the Specialist Provision, including:
9. Deaf awareness training and insights into the impact of hearing loss on learning.
10. Guidance on hearing aid equipment and effective student support strategies.
11. Access to language development programmes and visual communication resources.

13. Position: Communication Support Buddy
14. Hours: Monday – Friday, 08:30 AM – 15:30 PM
15. Start Date: September 2025
16. Rate of Pay: From £ per hour
Eligibility Criteria:
17. Right to work in the UK.
18. Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate (registered with the online update service or willingness to apply).
19. References available upon request.
20. Up-to-date Safeguarding Training (or willingness to complete training).
