About The Role

Job Title: Site Engineer

Location: Braco - Perth & Kinross

Project Type: Civils

Company: Balfour Beatty Group

The Cambushinnie 400kV Substation is a nationally significant energy infrastructure project forming a key element of SSEN Transmissions Beauly to Denny upgrade, increasing the network from 275kV to 400kV operation to support the delivery of clean, renewable electricity across Scotland and the UK.

Located adjacent to the existing Braco West substation, the project is part of SSEN Transmissions £22bn+ Pathway to 2030 investment programme, designed to strengthen energy security, enable offshore and onshore renewables, and accelerate progress toward Net Zero targets.

For candidates, Cambushinnie offers the opportunity to work on future‑critical energy infrastructure that directly supports the UK's clean power and energy‑security ambitions. Individuals will gain exposure to high‑voltage substation construction, complex ground conditions, and environmentally sensitive delivery, all within a safety‑led, technically demanding setting.


Role Purpose

* Undertake site engineering control and implementation of works on site, including monitoring and reporting progress.
* The project involves significant heavy civil engineering such as earthworks, drainage, and roads.


Accountabilities Core

* Live the Balfour Beatty Values

Health, Safety & Environmental

* Produce Task Briefing Sheets
* Contribute to production of Permit to Dig, including briefing to the workforce
* Carry out briefings and toolbox talks
* Conduct Safety Inspections
* Identify hazards and contribute to developing Safe Systems of Work


Engineering Control

* Set out from primary control provided by others
* Provide sketches detailing the setting out information installed
* Maintain survey equipment, including registers and testing regimes
* Read and determine information from drawings, schedules, and specifications


Quality

* Produce as‑built drawings and records for every element of the works involved
* Complete Quality Check Sheets and produce information for Handover Documentation in line with programme
* Maintain accurate records Daily Diary, photographs, records of site discussions


Productivity

* Measure actual materials used and reconcile with theoretical measures, reporting and investigating reasons for differences
* Work to Weekly Programme (drafted by others) and mark up progress achieved weekly
* Contribute to collection of data for Key Performance Indicators, including reasons for difference


Commercial

* Produce accurate daily diary of resources, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, and outputs
* Produce weekly measure, take-offs, and schedule materials accurately, producing clear requisitions and following through to delivery
* Understand what is classified as additional work and how to record this
* Be familiar with actual resourcing levels versus budget and report reasons for differences

* Hold a current driving licence and CSCS Card
* Be a good team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills


Health, Safety & Environmental (Qualifications)

* Understand and use Permit to Work System
* Demonstrate environmental awareness


Engineering Control (Qualifications)

* Use setting out techniques and survey equipment
* Report issues with control and information provided


Quality (Qualifications)

* Read and understand drawings and schedules
* Understand Activity Control Plans and produce resultant information for handover file
* Have a strong understanding of construction tolerances
* Be aware of and use Specification and other Contract documents
* Produce detailed documentation for handover of completed works


Productivity (Qualifications)

* Take off and schedule material quantities accurately


Commercial (Qualifications)

* Have knowledge of specification and contract documents
* Understand what constitutes additional works


Desirable

* Developing leadership skills
* Targeting and actively progressing professional accreditation (e.g., ICE, IHT)
* EUSR Cat 1 & 2 Training
