Role Overview
This Fixed Term, full‑time (40 hours per week) post is available at Western General Hospital, commencing August 2025 and concluding August 2026. Six‑month terms may also be considered.
Responsibilities
* Participate in a rota with out‑of‑hours work, night shifts and weekends.
* Support the respiratory on‑call rota, assessing unfiltered cases in the MAU and providing specialist assessment to other units within the WGH footprint.
* Provide inpatient care for the 35‑plus bed respiratory unit, managing acute and chronic respiratory disease.
* Attend and conduct outpatient respiratory clinics.
* Perform respiratory procedures, including bronchoscopic procedures (EBUS), pleural procedures (ultrasound supervision and tuition) and pulmonary function testing.
* Act as a co‑tutor for University of Edinburgh year 4 students during their respiratory attachment.
* Contribute to the WGH Respiratory Quality Improvement Team and local research initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
* FY2+ level – doctor having completed the UK Foundation programme.
* Assessed as acute‑take safe under supervision.
* Interest or experience in respiratory medicine is preferred.
* Willingness to work full‑time 40 hours per week and engage in on‑call duties.
* Strong communication and teaching skills.
* Commitment to undertaking 10 % protected development time focusing on clinical teaching, quality improvement, patient safety, management and leadership development or informatics.
