At Spinney Hill Primary School, we are have established an Internal Alternative Provision (IAP) for children with communication and interaction needs including children on the pathway or with a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum. The provision is designed to meet the needs of children initially in EYFS or KS1 however this will develop over time. The vision is that children will be able to access the provision as well as a mainstream classroom. The provision is staffed by a Level 3 and Level 2 TAs alongside our SENco with a proportion of teaching commitment.
The role will be to support children either in their classes, within the IAP or in an intervention. Additional support will be given by the LA Special Educational Needs Service and through the already established network. A comprehensive CPD package will be implemented.
Our most recent Ofsted in November 2022 reflect the outcome of our focus on developing SEND provision across the school.
‘Leaders and staff have high expectations for all pupils. This includes those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils are expected to ‘inspire, support, grow and achieve’. They do. They have pride in their learning and work hard. They take an active role in lessons and are keen to answer teachers’ questions… Pupils with SEND get a good deal here. Pupils’ additional needs are identified promptly. There are clear systems in place to ensure that the pupils receive the extra support they require. Leaders monitor this work closely. There are strong links with outside agencies, such as the early years support team and the educational psychologist'
