Controls & Automation Engineer – Manufacturing
This leading manufacturer is searching for an experienced Controls and Automation Engineer to support their modern highly automated manufacturing plant.
Location: Telford
Shift: Night Shift, 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Role Overview
Working as part of the Advanced Manufacturing Engineer team, you will support current automated manufacturing processes and equipment, lead continuous improvement projects, and play a key role in specifying new automated production lines or assembly cells across the facility.
Responsibilities
1. Develop controls improvements to enhance process efficiencies.
2. Diagnose and resolve automation challenges involving PLC, HMI, robotics, and MES systems, ensuring sustainable performance.
3. Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and NPI teams to implement automated solutions that improve uptime, quality, and cycle times.
4. Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
5. Support plant maintenance in troubleshooting and resolving automation failures.
Candidate Requirements
* Control Systems/Electrical Engineering qualification at HNC level or equivalent.
* Proficiency with PLC and robot automation in manufacturing, including ABB Robots (IRC5), Siemens S7 PLC, Siemens WinCC, and TAI Portal development.
* Strong understanding of control systems, root cause analysis, and 8D problem-solving techniques.
* Experience with vision systems and innovative problem-solving skills.
* Proactive in eliminating product risks through automation and supporting new product launches.
* Ability to work permanent night shifts.
