Job Description
We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Best Interest Assessor to carry out assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) framework. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive assessments to determine whether a deprivation of liberty is occurring and whether it is in the person’s best interests, necessary, and proportionate. You will ensure all decisions made are legally robust and person-centred, and that the voices of those affected are heard and respected.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake Best Interest Assessments under the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and DoLS.
* Work in accordance with legal requirements, statutory guidance, and case law.
* Liaise with mental health assessors, care providers, legal representatives, and advocates (IMCAs).
* Prepare high-quality, legally sound reports and recommendations.
* Ensure timely and effective completion of assessments in line with statutory timeframes.
* Support internal training and awareness regarding MCA and DoLS.
* Participate in quality assurance processes and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
* A recognised qualification in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Psychology.
* Current registration with the appropriate professional body (e.g., Social Work England).
* Valid Best Interest Assessor qualification (with up-to-date refresher training).
* Sound knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, DoLS, and relevant case law.
* Experience of working with adults who may lack capacity.
* Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
