An exciting opportunity to influence the direction of a small charity and gain recognition for your work. What difference will you make? One in two families which involve domestic abuse have a pet. Over 25% of the victims will not leave their abuser for fear of what may happen to the pet. Often, the pet cannot be taken with them when they flee, and very few refuges allow animals to stay. By helping them find foster carers or accommodation that enables them to remain with their pets in safety, the charity, under your guidance, will be making a huge difference to their lives. It should not be understated - you will literally save lives. What are we looking for? Given the nature of the role, we particularly want someone who has experience in charity governance, or as an alternative, extensive experience in project management. Evidence of working with abuse victims is a definite advantage, and you should be able to demonstrate why you want to help an animal charity in particular. People come with a wide variety of skills and experience, and we look forward to discussing yours with you, so we won't be too prescriptive here. But we do ask that you have at least three years of governance experience, and a strong desire to help animals and people experiencing domestic abuse in particular. What will you be doing? We are looking for a volunteer to manage the charity's day to day affairs with a particular focus on outreach, grant funding applications and case management. This role will involve the volunteer working closely with the board of trustees who remain overseers of the charity and its direction. However, you will have extensive experience in project management and will be able to act unilaterally with a certain remit in taking the charity forward. We have extensive processes in which you will be fully trained. Charity management also requires a good handle of the finances and other aspects of charity management, and you will have experience in these wider skills to bring to the charity. You can expect your tasks to include Volunteer management Dealing with service users Financial management and planning Fundraising and grant applications Social media strategy with the trustees Case management, assisting those who need urgent help in situations of domestic abuse. Additional skills training will be available for you to gain great benefits from volunteering with us. The role is important, and as a voluntary position is significantly demanding, so we employ a rigorous process of selection to ensure the right candidate is chosen. We hope for this to be a long term position.
