Our Mission: Delivering leading-edge technology to restore hearing and empower connection. This role will be onsite in our Durham, NC office and does NOT include relocation assistance. About the Role: We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join as an integral part of the Durham, NC Finance team. This individual will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of all aspects of bi-weekly payroll for the US and a small Canadian team. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for reconciling benefits, maintaining payroll files, and management of payroll taxes for multiple states working closely with the third-party payroll processing software. The Payroll Specialist will also assist in the daily payroll operations, including assisting employees with general payroll questions and providing education on company-specific payroll policies and other payroll and benefits related functions. The Payroll Specialist provides high-level administrative and financial support and must have the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, including outside clients and vendors. Primary Responsibilities: Processes bi-weekly payroll for all employees accurately and on time. Works independently performing a wide range of complex and confidential administrative and financial support duties. Coordinates with HR for timecard reconciliation, as well as changes in payroll, including terminations and new hires. Maintains and processes incentive plans as designed, from calculation to payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely payment. Reconciles benefits paid to vendors to benefits deducted from employees for payroll. Reconciles and remits funds to 401(k) and H.S.A. plans. Reconciles Dependent Care Plan & payroll-based GL accounts. Manages and maintains payroll tax files for various states and works closely with a third-party payroll processor to ensure accuracy. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. Update Secretary of State Registrations (SOS) as needed. Preparing & Filing Sales Tax Returns for multi-states as needed. Assists employees with general payroll questions, and provides education as needed on MED-EL’s payroll practices and policies. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in payroll processing and administration. Assists in the coordination of payroll enrollment for staff, including direct deposit, which involves working closely with HR. Runs reports as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager. Assist the Accounting team with various customer account reconciliations and/or administrative duties. Serve as a backup for various Accounting functions as needed. Assists other Finance teams as needed. Position Qualifications: High School Diploma, associate's degree preferred 2-3 years minimum of current work experience in payroll Experience working with third-party payroll software - Paycor, ADP, Paylocity, etc. Analytical mind, good math skills Good organizational skills necessary to ensure good quality and efficiency of work Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and with minimal supervision Knowledge of database maintenance basic concepts Ability to perform accurate data entry Brings a positive team attitude Ability to interact courteously and professionally during interactions with customers or the public at large while representing MED-EL Corporation Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Word) Ability to keep confidential information private What We Offer: We know that benefits are important to you, and we offer a robust benefits package including: Full medical, dental, and optional vision coverage effective on the first day of the month following 30 days of active service.
