Welfare Officer – Secondary School – Harrow – ASAP – Full‑time

Tradewind Recruitment is working with a well‑regarded secondary school in Harrow seeking a Welfare Officer to join their team immediately on a full‑time, long‑term basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting students' physical, emotional, and social wellbeing while contributing to a safe and supportive school environment.
Role Overview
As a Welfare Officer, you will be central to the school's pastoral care system, ensuring students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. You will work closely with staff, students, and parents to provide high‑quality welfare support and respond to day‑to‑day needs.
Responsibilities
* Act as the first point of contact for student welfare and medical needs
* Provide first aid and manage minor injuries and illnesses
* Support students with emotional wellbeing and pastoral concerns
* Maintain accurate records of incidents, medical needs, and welfare concerns
* Liaise with parents/carers regarding student wellbeing when required
* Support safeguarding procedures and report concerns in line with school policy
* Assist with attendance monitoring and follow up on absences
* Manage and maintain medical supplies and welfare resources
* Support students with individual healthcare plans
* Work closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams to ensure student support is effective
Requirements
* Previous experience in a school‑based role (secondary school, sports academy, or college essential; welfare experience desirable)
* First Aid at Work qualification
* A caring, calm, and approachable manner
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* A proactive and reliable approach
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
