Inclusion Officer / Behaviour Support Worker

A rewarding opportunity for an Inclusion Officer / Behaviour Support Worker to support children to overcome barriers to learning through effective behaviour management, pastoral care and trauma-informed approaches.

SALARY: £24,796 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £17,243 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Temporary

This role is of a temporary nature until August 2026, but the contract could potentially be extended.

WORKING HOURS: 30 hours per week, 8:45am to 3:15pm, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only (39 Weeks)


JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Inclusion Officer / Behaviour Support supporting children who require additional help to regulate, refocus and re-engage with learning.

As an Inclusion Officer / Behaviour Support Worker you will respond to instances of dysregulation, applying trauma-informed strategies, de-escalation techniques and calm, consistent guidance.

The Inclusion Officer / Behaviour Support Worker will work closely with senior staff to help children manage triggers, rebuild confidence and successfully reintegrate into the classroom environment.


DUTIES

* Responding Calmly to Dysregulation: Attend radio calls promptly and assess each situation safely
* Applying De-Escalation Techniques: Use effective strategies to support emotional regulation
* Maintaining Safety: Make dynamic risk assessments to safeguard children, peers and staff
* Providing Regulation Support: Offer trauma-informed guidance and sensory-aware approaches
* Escorting Children Safely: Guide pupils to designated regulation spaces when required
* Upholding High Expectations: Model consistency and clear boundaries during recovery
* Supporting Reintegration: Help children return to lessons when ready to re-engage
* Sharing Key Information: Communicate triggers and strategies with class teachers
* Coaching Children: Support pupils in recognising emotions and practising regulation techniques
* Following up Missed Learning: Assist with reintegration of academic work where appropriate


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS


ESSENTIAL

* Previous experience supporting children’s behaviour, wellbeing or inclusion needs
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to apply de-escalation and co-regulation strategies
* A background in working with emotional or behavioural needs
* Ability to stay calm, consistent and supportive in challenging moments
* Confident in liaising with staff, pupils and parents


DESIRABLE

* Experience with trauma-informed practice
* Experience within a primary school or educational setting
* Knowledge of sensory needs and regulation approaches
