Position: Data Strategy & Governance Lead Contract: 5 weeks possible extensions / Inside IR35 Location: Remote About the Role We're seeking an experienced Data Strategy & Governance Lead to oversee and deliver a structured, insight-driven data maturity engagement for one of our clients. In this role, you will shape the strategic approach, guide the assessment methodology, and ensure all outputs—from discovery workshops through to the final report—are aligned with organisational priorities and industry best practice. You will act as the senior point of accountability throughout the engagement, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outputs, including a data maturity assessment, prioritised recommendations, and dashboard visualisations. You'll also play a key role in translating complex insights into compelling narratives that support buy-in and drive improvement. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Direction Provide strategic oversight to ensure alignment with client objectives and readiness for data-driven change. Lead project planning, methodology, and decision-making across all phases. Oversee development and delivery of the Data Maturity Assessment, benchmarked against sector best practice. Stakeholder Engagement & Workshops Lead engagement across operational, support, and leadership teams to uncover challenges, risks, and opportunities. Facilitate discovery workshops exploring culture, governance, systems, and organisational needs. Build trust and create an inclusive environment that encourages open dialogue. Analysis & Insight Generation Guide analysis and synthesis of workshop outcomes and maturity assessment results. Identify quick wins, capability gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities. Ensure all insights and recommendations are evidence-based, actionable, and context-appropriate. Reporting & Visualisation Lead the creation of final deliverables, combining assessment findings, workshop insights, and recommended actions. Structure recommendations into clear Now / Next / Later actions. Quality & Risk Management Maintain oversight of risks and ensure proactive mitigation. Ensure accuracy, consistency, and professional quality of all outputs. Support improved data capability, literacy, and culture across the organisation. About You Ideally, you will bring: Strong strategic consultancy experience leading complex data-focused engagements. Expertise in data governance, data maturity models, and public sector best practice. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and communicate at senior levels. Experience designing and facilitating structured discovery workshops. Strong analytical capability and the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations. Proficiency in data visualisation, particularly Power BI. Outstanding communication and storytelling skills. A rigorous approach to quality assurance. Experience delivering data maturity assessments using recognised frameworks.
