We are seeking an enthusiastic and professional Martial Arts Coach to deliver dynamic, high-quality sessions that empower participants of all ages and abilities. Working closely with the High-Performance Manager and Sports Zone team, you will plan and lead structured classes that include warm-ups, technical drills, pad work, conditioning, and cool-downs. You will adapt sessions to suit varying experience levels while maintaining exceptional standards of safety, inclusivity, and professionalism. The role requires availability on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings, delivering approximately three hours of coaching per week. The successful candidate will be highly organised, reliable, and capable of motivating others while upholding the College’s values. KEY RESPONSIBILITES Coaching & Session Delivery Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging martial arts sessions for participants of all abilities. Lead structured warm-ups, technical drills, pad work, conditioning, and cool-downs. Adapt coaching methods and session content to meet individual needs and experience levels. Maintain strong class control and positive discipline throughout sessions. Demonstrate techniques clearly and safely, promoting correct form and progression. Technical & Practical Skills Act as a confident and effective pad holder, supporting safe and purposeful training. Ensure all techniques and drills are delivered in line with best practice and governing body guidance. Manage session timings efficiently to maximise participation and learning within allocated class time. Health, Safety & Safeguarding Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants at all times. Carry out pre-session equipment and space checks. Follow College safeguarding, health & safety, and emergency procedures. Promote respect, inclusivity, and positive behaviour within all sessions. Participant Experience & Engagement Create a welcoming and motivating environment for beginners and experienced participants alike. Encourage progression, confidence, and enjoyment of martial arts training. Provide constructive feedback and support individual development. Administration & Communication Communicate effectively with the High-Performance Manager regarding attendance, progress, and any concerns. Maintain accurate attendance records where required. Provide feedback on session outcomes and suggestions for programme development. Professional Conduct Represent the College in a professional and positive manner at all times. Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and preparedness for every session. Commit to ongoing professional development where appropriate. PERSON SPECIFICATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Essential Criteria: Proven experience coaching or instructing martial arts. Ability to confidently lead classes with mixed abilities and experience levels. Strong pad-holding skills and technical competence. Excellent time management and organisational skills. Passionate, energetic, and motivating coaching style. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Understanding of health & safety and safeguarding in a coaching environment. Availability to deliver sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings. Desirable Criteria: Recognised coaching qualification in a martial art discipline. First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain). Experience coaching in a college, school, or community setting. Safeguarding or child protection training.
