Offer description

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner to play a key role in driving the advanced clinical practice agenda within Acute Medicine. As a Senior ACP, your leadership will be pivotal in shaping the future of patient care and service delivery. You will work collaboratively with a team of operational and medical leaders, alongside other ACPs and Resident Doctors, supported by Consultants.

The ACP team at Walsall NHS Trust has been rated“Outstanding”by the CQC. We maintain an active research agenda with strong partnerships with local universities, including the co-development of acute medical MSc modules with the University of Birmingham. The Medical and Long-Term Division has made substantial investments in ACP roles, offering unparalleled professional growth and development opportunities.

We provide a comprehensive post-qualification development plan that empowers Senior ACPs to tailor their non-clinical time towards divisional leadership, research or education priorities. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a developing research environment, supported to participate in national and international academic forums.

By joining our team, you become part of an internationally recognised group of leaders in Advanced Clinical Practice, committed to excellence in patient care, education and innovation.

The post holder will practice independently as a Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) within the Medical SDEC service. This clinically focused role requires expertise in patient assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within the agreed scope of practice.

In addition to direct clinical care, the role includes responsibilities for supporting departmental coordination, service delivery and line management. The Senior ACP will also provide education, mentorship and professional development to junior staff.

The post holder is expected to ensure the safe treatment, referral and discharge of patients within the Medical SDEC unit, maintaining high standards of care.

The Senior ACP will also contribute to sustaining and enhancing Walsall’s national reputation for excellence in advanced clinical practice by engaging in non-clinical activities such as education, research, leadership and management.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community healthcare services to a diverse population of approximately 260,000 residents across the West Midlands.

We are proud to be recognised by our colleagues as a great place to work, with a culture built on our core values ofRespect, Compassion, Teamwork, and Professionalism. We are committed to investing in our workforce, supporting personal and professional development at every stage of your career.

Does this sound like the kind of organisation you want to be part of? One where a former Band 2 porter completed her Nursing Registration and went to serve in the Senior Nursing Team? Or where a colleague who joined as an Emergency Department Registrar progressed to become an ED Consultant, then Clinical Director, and finally Divisional Director of Medicine?

As the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, our integrated Trust delivers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services from Walsall Manor Hospital, as well as extensive community-based care.

Could you make an impact here as we focus on #BuildingOurFuture?

The post holder will provide expert clinical and professional support to trainee clinicians and other staff during their shift, demonstrating excellent interpersonal, communication and clinical skills.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is expected, including learning from incidents and striving for excellence throughout the patient pathway. The Senior ACP will be an active member of the Acute Medical Team and will receive supported non-clinical time to fulfil educational and developmental responsibilities.

Close collaboration with a Consultant Educational Supervisor is essential to ensure the post holder’s portfolio is maintained and that a Personal Development Plan (PDP) is in place and regularly reviewed.

Clinical Responsibilities:
• Systematically assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
• Communicate effectively with patients, their carers and the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
• Undertake floor management duties, including staff allocation, to ensure efficient department operation and proactive management of patient flow through clear, coherent management plans.
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of departmental integrated care pathways and actively contribute to the development of new clinical and operational guidelines.
