adults with learning disabilities
older people (who may have dementia)
Register your interest If you would like to become a Shared Lives carer, first you will need to register your interest with us. a DBS check (disclosure and barring service)
medical references
a health and safety assessment of your home
# Get matched to someone in need If you pass the suitability process, you can become a Shared Lives carer. Training is available after your approval to help you develop your skills. You must take a refresher training course every three years.
Payment for Shared Lives carers
Day support carers are paid on an hourly rate and short break carers are paid a fee for the type of support they provide. Both carers are classed as self-employed and will be expected to register with HMRC.
