We’re looking for a hands‑on Senior DevOps Engineer to help modernise and run the core infrastructure that powers one of the UK’s most complex distribution and forecasting networks. You’ll play a key role in moving us toward a secure, automated, cloud‑first future.
In this role, you’ll design, operate, and improve our on‑prem, cloud, and hybrid platforms. You’ll work closely with engineering, security, data, and service teams to embed automation, strengthen resilience, and deliver high‑quality infrastructure services. This is a senior technical role with real ownership — not people management.
We offer a hybrid working model, with a minimum of 2 days a week in our Peterborough office.
What you’ll be doing:
* Build and support resilient cloud and on‑prem infrastructure
* Ensure platforms are secure, scalable, monitored, and well documented
* Develop CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
* Automate processes to improve reliability and reduce manual work
* Enhance observability, logging, and operational tooling
* Participate in the DevOps on‑call rota
* Lead incident response and root‑cause investigations
* Implement fixes to improve stability and prevent recurrence
* Embed security and compliance into platform design
* Manage access controls, encryption, and audit logging
* Support vulnerability and configuration management
* Work within a Kanban delivery model
* Prioritise technical work and support continuous improvement
* Collaborate with Infrastructure, Security, Development, Data, and Service teams
We are looking for people with:
* Strong experience in DevOps or infrastructure engineering
* Hands‑on cloud or hybrid production support
* Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar)
* Scripting (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
* Experience in Agile/Kanban environments
* Networking, monitoring, and troubleshooting experience
* Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
* Desirable, but not essential: Containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), Configuration management (e.g., Ansible), GitOps practices, virtualisation, and infrastructure security knowledge.
Even if you don’t meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. If you’re excited about the role and believe you could be a great fit, we encourage you to apply.
What’s in it for you:
We offer a comprehensive benefits package to support your wellbeing and lifestyle, including:
* Contributory pension, including life assurance, and income protection
* Informal hybrid working arrangements, combining in‑office and remote/home working.
* Additional leave: 2 paid volunteering days per year and family‑friendly policy
* Wellbeing support, including our Employee Assistance Programme
* On‑site gym and parking at Stuart House, Peterborough
* Reward Gateway scheme – Smart Spending App with access to a range of deals and discounts
* Salary‑sacrifice options including private medical insurance, car scheme, and holiday purchase scheme
* Learning and development opportunities
* Executive coaching and mentoring available to all colleagues
