Direct Line Motability In-House Motor Engineer
Liverpool - Hybrid (2 days a week in the office)
Full Time, Permanent Position

Direct Line is evolving. Across every part of our business, teams are embracing new opportunities and putting customers at the heart of everything they do. Whether you're already part of Direct Line or thinking about joining us, you'll have the chance not only to be recognised for your skills, but also to build on them and be empowered to do your very best.

What you’ll be doing

As a Motability In-House Motor Engineer, you'll carry out research, investigations and technical reviews on motor claims up to £50,000, using your engineering expertise to achieve the right technical outcomes and strengthen indemnity control. You'll work directly with Customers, Third Parties and their representatives, support Claims Handlers with coaching and training, and stay on top of the latest technical developments to continually raise capability across the team.

Reporting directly to the Technical Claims Unit Leader, you'll:

1. Handle and negotiate motor claims within your licence level.

2. Review repair and total loss cases (including Audatex) to ensure optimum settlement and minimise leakage.

3. Identify and refer any cases involving potential Fraud or Injury to the appropriate specialist teams.

4. Manage customer and third-party interactions professionally and efficiently to deliver high levels of satisfaction.

5. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external Engineers, repair networks and suppliers.

6. Identify, source and secure third-party experts or suppliers to provide evidence that supports case recommendations.

7. Spot opportunities for process improvements and contribute to efficiency, service quality and indemnity performance.

8. Provide technical coaching, feedback and support to Claims colleagues to enhance capability across the team.

9. Handle or support on complex cases requiring deeper technical expertise.

Our hybrid model offers a 'best of both worlds' approach. When you'll be in the office depends on your role and team, but colleagues spend at least 2 days a week in the office.

What you’ll need

10. Expert technical knowledge within a relevant motor engineering category or class of business.

11. Experience working in a technical or engineering-focused environment.

12. Demonstrated experience in coaching, supporting and guiding others.

13. Strong ability to analyse repair methods, total loss assessments and technical reports.

14. Excellent decision-making skills with a focus on accuracy, indemnity control and reducing leakage.
