Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, plus up to a £3,000 market supplement for suitable candidates, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:
We are currently seeking an English Lecturer to join our English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
1. Deliver High-Quality English Teaching – Plan and deliver engaging lessons across multiple levels, ensuring individual learner needs are met.
2. Assess & Monitor Progress – Prepare schemes of work, assess to awarding body standards, track student progress, and provide timely interventions.
3. Enhance Student Experience – Support tutorials, promote vocational opportunities, and maintain inclusive, safe learning environments.
4. Contribute to Curriculum & Quality – Develop innovative resources, participate in course reviews, marketing activities, and ensure compliance with quality processes.
5. Uphold Professional Standards – Maintain safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety compliance while engaging in continuous professional development.
About you:
6. Essential Qualifications – Degree or Level 5 qualification in English, Certificate in Education/PGCE (or equivalent), and GCSE Maths & English (A–C).
7. Teaching Expertise – Recent experience teaching and assessing GCSE English Language (Pearson specification), strong classroom management, and ability to deliver high-quality learning experiences.
8. Knowledge & Professional Skills – Up-to-date subject knowledge, ability to use Microsoft Office confidently, complete administrative tasks accurately, and meet deadlines.
9. Interpersonal & Team Skills – Strong communication, organisational and influencing skills, ability to build positive relationships and contribute effectively to team objectives.
10. Values & Flexibility – Commitment to safeguarding, EDI, College values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty), willingness to travel across sites, and maintain CPD.

Shuttleworth College is set within the stunning location of Old Warden Park, near Biggleswade. It's a specialist land-based college, offering agricultural and environmental education, alongside animal sciences, equine studies and outdoor adventure all delivered within acres of parkland, farmland, lakes and woodland.
