Senior Fellow – Oesophagogastric Surgery

Purpose for Fixed Term: Training Contract
This post is appointed on a fixed‑term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training, supervised clinical development, and service delivery aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum.

Job responsibilities
You will experience the full range of cancer and benign upper gastrointestinal (UGI) practice, with opportunities in advanced endoscopy (EMR/ESD/POEM/ESG etc.) and manage benign and malignant upper GI surgical conditions as a senior fellow supported by four Consultant surgeons. You will be involved in research projects with the university and attend MDT, audit and management meetings.
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
* MRCS/FRCS/ARCS as per JCHST requirements
* Experience at Registrar level
* Higher Degree (MD/PhD)
* Robotic experience
* Previous Senior Fellow experience
Aptitudes and skills
* Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams
* Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
* Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English)
* Demonstration of good organisational skills, prioritising effectively and meeting deadlines
* Demonstration of the ability to be calm, compassionate, and respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
* Evidence of successful completion of an ATLS Course
* Understanding of clinical risk management
* Work without direct supervision where appropriate
* Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach
* Shows initiative, drive, enthusiasm, resilience and flexibility
* Clinical audit experience
* Experienced in surgical and laparoscopic skills
* Ability to produce legible, accurate, complete and comprehensible notes
* Demonstrate use of evidence‑based practice
* Understanding of NHS, clinical governance and resource constraints; management/financial awareness and committee experience
