Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is seeking an Agentic Systems Architect (Engineer V) to design, deliver, and evolve next-generation autonomous systems. You will act as a go-to technical authority in our Agentic AI organization, leading the creation of large-scale platforms where AI agents plan, act, self-correct, and collaborate across complex business domains. Engineer V typically leads multiple projects or owns a critical domain of the platform, such as "AI Code Execution and Validation," encompassing sandboxing, static analysis, runtime monitoring, and deployment integration for AI-generated code. In this role, you will have broad autonomy to define technical approaches and make decisions that directly shape the architecture of the overall system. You will coordinate closely with the engineering manager and principal engineers to ensure the platform meets strategic goals and scales globally. This level mirrors advanced staff engineers at leading tech companies — those recognized for designing distributed, agentic, and autonomous systems. Key Outputs & Outcomes: Strategic Technical Plans: Develop architecture roadmaps and agent governance models to guide coherent, scalable system evolution. Deliver funded proposals and strategic technical direction based on your planning. Successful Delivery of Complex Projects: Lead delivery of critical initiatives, such as autonomous code validation services, agent orchestration frameworks, or self-correcting subsystems, with measurable impact (e.g., 50% reduction in manual verification effort). Technical Innovation: Prototype and integrate agentic innovations, including autonomous feedback loops, dynamic agent task planning, and scalable self-repair mechanisms. Organizational Learning & Standards: Establish best practices for agent reliability, prompt policy enforcement, and system drift prevention. Mentor engineers and embed autonomous-first thinking across the organization. Responsibilities: Technical Roadmapping & Design: Collaborate with Principal Engineers and leadership to define roadmaps for critical domains like "AI Code Execution and Validation," breaking long-term vision into executable architecture updates. Project Technical Leadership: Drive end-to-end execution, from critical design decisions to risk management. Architect resilient, modular systems where agents can operate safely and scale autonomously. Innovation & Prototyping: Investigate cutting-edge research, prototype agentic self-debugging, memory evolution, or multi-agent orchestration solutions, and translate successful prototypes into platform capabilities. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work across Product, QA, Security, and Operations teams to align platform evolution with business goals, ensuring AI agent outputs meet security, compliance, and operational standards. Mentoring and Technical Influence: Mentor engineers at all levels, lead technical reviews, and champion a culture where AI-driven autonomy and engineering excellence are foundational expectations. Required Skills & Experience: 10 years of software engineering experience, with significant time in senior/staff roles driving complex systems architecture. Proven system design and analytical skills: ability to conceptualize, architect, and reason about large, distributed, agentic systems including failure modes and dynamic interactions. Expertise in distributed systems and cloud architectures, with deep understanding of eventual consistency, transaction boundaries, and multi-region deployments. Proficient in agentic AI frameworks: tool invocation, multi-step planning, chaining, agent governance. Mastery of multiple programming paradigms; comfortable bridging high-level AI-driven workflows with low-level system optimization where needed. Strong ownership mentality; known for delivering resilient, scalable systems with minimal oversight. Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating complex architectural visions to both technical and non-technical audiences. Preferred Skills & Tools: Experience architecting multi-agent distributed orchestration systems. Exposure to LLM fine-tuning/customization for specific platform goals. Advanced knowledge of system security, compliance (ISO, SOC2), and static/dynamic code analysis. Experience working with globally distributed teams and designing systems that must operate reliably across geographies. Recognition in professional communities (conferences, open-source contributions) is a strong plus.
