Legal counsel
€85,000 a year

Offer description

We’re continuing to scale our legal function and looking for a UK-qualified Legal Counsel to join the team. Reporting to our Head of Legal, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering an ambitious roadmap of legal, compliance, and commercial initiatives across FundApps and the newly combined group with SteelEye.

Your primary focus will be leading commercial contract negotiations and providing pragmatic, business-aligned legal support that helps internal teams move quickly and confidently. You’ll work closely with Revenue, Product, InfoSec and Operations to resolve client queries, unblock deals, support product development, and strengthen our legal foundations as we scale.

This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role suited to someone who enjoys ownership, context‑switching and partnering with commercial stakeholders.

What You’ll Be Working On

The life of an in‑house lawyer is varied and each day is a veritable roulette of tasks; one day you might be negotiating terms with a client and the next you could be reviewing a new AI tool for legal issues. To give you a bit more of an understanding of the kinds of tasks that may come your way, here is a non‑exhaustive selection:

* Review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements (vendor contracts, data provider agreements, client terms, NDAs, DPAs).
* Leading live negotiations (calls/video) with counterparties, procurement teams, client legal departments and external counsel.
* Providing clear, concise guidance that balances legal risk with commercial outcomes.
* Managing contracts throughout their lifecycle: order forms, redlines, renewals, amendments, and terminations.
* Improving contract management processes and tooling, including renewal monitoring and workflow optimisation.
* Advising on legal and compliance aspects of new product features: especially around data, AI, integrations, and regulated‑market customers.
* Monitoring relevant UK/EU regulatory developments (e.g., privacy/data protection, tech regulation) and delivering actionable updates to the business.
* Responding to day‑to‑day legal queries across the company, empowering teams to operate confidently.
* Conducting DPIAs and advising on key UK/EU data protection concepts, including reviewing and negotiating DPAs and providing practical privacy guidance across products and operations.
* Driving legal ops projects that improve scalability and efficiency, such as refining internal legal playbooks, creating training resources for client‑facing teams, enhancing privacy and data governance practices for a scaling SaaS organisation and developing external compliance materials to enable client self‑service.
* Supporting aspects of the FundApps × SteelEye post‑merger integration, such as reviewing policies, aligning governance and contributing to the legal workstream.

What You’ll Bring To The Team

We’re looking for someone with great instincts, curiosity, and pragmatism, eager to learn and excited to help build something meaningful.

Must‑haves

* Qualified solicitor (in England and Wales) or RFL with the SRA.
* 3+ years’ relevant legal experience (in‑house at a tech/SaaS company is a strong plus).
* Strong commercial contracts expertise – drafting, negotiating, and issue‑spotting, with deep knowledge of key structures and risks (indemnities, liability, termination) and negotiation strategies.
* Proven ability to lead real‑time negotiations with confidence, clarity, and pragmatism (calls/video) with counterparties, procurement, client legal, and external counsel.
* Comfort working independently on contracts and day‑to‑day legal matters, with good judgment on when to elevate issues.
* Comfort operating in ambiguity (“organised chaos”) – able to prioritise, bring structure, and make progress when there are more questions than answers, particularly during a busy integration phase.
* Not afraid to hit the ground running – proactive, solutions‑oriented, and able to build momentum without needing everything defined upfront.
* Collaborative and coachable – keen to work closely with the Head of Legal, iterating steadily to deliver a major board‑level integration project (one of the biggest to date).
* Familiarity with UK GDPR / EU GDPR concepts, DPAs, and data governance basics (or strong willingness to ramp quickly).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills – concise, business‑friendly, persuasive.
* A collaborative, hands‑on mindset – willing to take ownership and roll up your sleeves as part of a small team.
* Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism to handle negotiations across a wide range of client and internal stakeholders.
* Experience supporting M&A or post‑merger integration workstreams (even as a contributor).
* Experience with CLM tools or other legal tech platforms.
* Previous exposure to SaaS or startup environments, ideally high‑growth and fast‑moving.
