WM College is seeking a skilled and proactive Art and Design Technician to support the delivery of our Painting and Drawing department. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant adult learning environment, supporting tutors across a range of painting and drawing courses.
This role is central to ensuring our studios are well-organised, fully equipped and safe, enabling high-quality teaching and learning to take place.
About the role:
- You will provide high-quality technical support to the Art and Design department, ensuring that studios, equipment and resources are consistently prepared, maintained and operated safely.
- A key aspect of the role is overseeing Health and Safety, ensuring all equipment, materials and working practices meet required standards, and that studios remain safe, compliant and well managed.
- You will work closely alongside another Art and Design Technician, contributing to a coordinated and efficient technical service across the department.
This is a fixed term (until August 2027), part-time role (0.3 FTE – approximately 1.5 days per week), requiring flexibility, including some evening and weekend work to support classes, exhibitions and college events.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain studios, equipment and materials for teaching sessions
- Ensure safe working environments and oversee Health & Safety compliance
- Support tutors and learners with the use of tools, materials and equipment
- Manage stock, ordering and storage of materials within budget
- Maintain systems for inventory and workshop organisation
- Support the installation and presentation of exhibitions and events

You will be a practical, organised and reliable technician with a good understanding of art and design studio practice. You’ll enjoy working collaboratively and take pride in creating efficient, safe and inspiring working environments.
Essential requirements:
- Experience working with art, design workshop equipment and studio environments
- Good understanding of Health & Safety in a workshop or studio setting
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage resources effectively
- Confident communication and teamworking skills
- Competent IT skills (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel)
