Design & Production Engineer – Ipswich – IRO £45,000 depending on experience
Are you an engineer who enjoys both designing machinery and getting hands-on in production? Do you want to see your designs built, tested and commissioned, not just sit on a screen?
We are recruiting for a long-established UK manufacturer of specialist processing equipment with a worldwide customer base. Due to continued growth, they are looking for a Design & Production Engineer to join their technical team and play a key role in designing, building and delivering bespoke machinery.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a true engineering position, combining design office work with practical, shop-floor involvement.
The Role of Design Engineer
You will be involved throughout the full lifecycle of each project, from concept and design through to build, test and commissioning.
Responsibilities
* Design special purpose machinery using 3D CAD (Inventor) and 2D AutoCAD
* Produce drawings, layouts, BOMs and technical documentation
* Work closely with production, supporting the build and assembly of machines
* Get hands-on in the workshop to assist with fitting, testing and fault finding
* Manage projects from order to commissioning
* Carry out in-house testing and factory trials
* Support site surveys and commissioning when required
* Maintain technical files for UKCA / CE compliance
* Provide technical support to sales, production and service teams
* Drive continuous improvement in design, build quality and processes
What We're Looking For
* Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar
* Strong 3D CAD experience (Inventor preferred)
* Proven experience in both machine design and hands-on production / build environments
* Background in special purpose machinery, automation or bespoke equipment
* Practical, proactive and comfortable working on the shop floor
* Organised and capable of managing multiple projects
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Confident communicator with a positive, hands-on attitude
