Acoustical Test Technician
Intertek is searching for an Acoustical Test Technician to join our Building & Construction team in our York, PA office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in acoustical testing of building products!
The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.
What are we looking for?
The Acoustical Test Technician is responsible for setting up and performing acoustical laboratory tests (with supervision) on a variety of building products and components. This is an entry level position with on-the-job training provided.
What you'll do:
1. Track and document test specimens
2. Coordinate construction and test
3. Construct wall, floor-ceiling and roof assemblies, filler wall assemblies and test openings
4. Check calibration status of test equipment
5. Set-up/mount test specimens
6. Remove, cut-up and discard specimens, store samples
7. Attend internal Basic Acoustics and Project Management training courses
8. Learn acoustical test standards and test procedures
9. Assist in all areas of testing to gain experience
10. Perform shipping and receiving duties, as needed
11. Maintain tools and equipment; inventory supplies; maintain cleanliness of work area
12. Perform other work as required
What it takes to be successful in this role:
1. High School Diploma or GED, or associate's degree
2. General construction/carpentry experience
3. Ability to use power tools
4. Technical competency to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results and possess a mechanical aptitude
5. Ability to use a tape measure and make accurate measurements
6. Physical ability to routinely lift at least 75 pounds
7. Physical ability to sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc. as required to perform job duties
8. Ability to follow directions and work under supervision
9. Excellent customer service skills
10. Highly motivated and have a good work ethic
11. Ability to work alone and on a team
12. Strong communication written and oral skills
13. Good computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite
14. Ability to travel as business needs dictate (trips are usually only 2 or 3 days)
15. Must have reliable transportation
16. Valid driver's license and reliable driving record (required)
