Job Description
3. Deliver Local Authority‑style Statement of Accounts and year‑end close processes, ensuring compliance with CIPFA Code requirements
4. Lead and further develop financial reporting tools and management information to support organisational decision‑making
5. Contribute to statutory accounts, annual budgets, in‑year monitoring and forecasting
6. Maintain strong financial controls, ensuring adherence to standards, legislation and best practice
7. Support colleagues with budget management, guidance and training where required
8. Prepare high‑quality financial reports, guidance notes and business cases for internal and external stakeholders
9. Respond to financial queries, FOI requests and reporting deadlines with accuracy and professionalism
10. Build positive working relationships to support strong financial governance across the organisation
The Successful Applicant
A successful Interim Financial Accountant should ideally be a:
11. CIPFA‑qualified accountant or have a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA) with recent experience of hands‑on Local Authority SoA and year‑end experience
12. Strong understanding of Local Authority finance, CIPFA/IFRS Code and financial reporting standards
13. Confident producing statutory accounts, managing budgets and analysing complex financial data
14. Skilled communicator capable of influencing and challenging senior stakeholders
15. Experienced in financial controls, reporting systems and public‑sector governance
16. Advanced Excel user with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
17. Organised, proactive and able to manage deadlines across multiple priorities
18. Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion with a collaborative approach
