Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Consultant to lead a small payroll team while driving key payroll transformation initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with both hands-on leadership capability and a proven track record of delivering process improvements, system enhancements, and transformation projects in complex environments.
Location & Duration
Location: Hertfordshire (mostly on-site)
Duration: 6 months initial contract
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a small payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery.
* Act as subject matter expert for payroll, advising HR, Finance and business stakeholders.
* Lead payroll transformation initiatives, focusing on process improvement, automation and efficiency.
* Oversee payroll compliance, governance, and internal controls.
* Manage vendor relationships and ensure performance is aligned to SLAs.
* Support change management and communication for payroll-related projects.
* Provide technical expertise across system integrations and payroll reporting.
Skills & Experience
* Significant experience leading payroll operations across medium to large organisations.
* Strong background in payroll transformation projects, including process re-engineering, system implementations or vendor transitions.
* In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
* Proven leadership skills with experience managing, mentoring, and developing teams.
* Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and engage senior leaders.
* Track record of delivering improvements in accuracy, efficiency and service quality.
* Duration: 6 months (potential to extend)
* Location: On-site in Hertfordshire (with some flexibility)
