The Role: We are currently supporting a well-established organisation in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, who are seeking an experienced Payroll & Accounts Assistant to join their finance team on a maternity-cover contract. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong payroll and management accounts experience who thrives in a busy, deadline-driven environment. As the Payroll & Accounts Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering accurate payroll, VAT reporting, month-end duties and banking tasks. Working closely with internal teams, you will be joining a supportive, professional finance function where your contribution will be genuinely valued. This Payroll & Accounts Assistant role is offered on a hybrid basis—3 days in the office and 2 from home, working 08:30–17:00, Monday to Friday. Main Responsibilities: * End-to-end preparation of payroll for 250 employees * Processing monthly overtime and holiday pay calculations * Working closely with HR and an external payroll provider to ensure payroll accuracy * Preparing and posting month-end journals and accruals * Completing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving discrepancies * Posting intercompany recharges * Supporting payment runs, bank posting and bank reconciliations * Managing expense system users, training and payment runs * Preparing VAT reports and contributing to annual PSA & P11D work Skills / Experience: * AAT qualified or equivalent * Proven experience in payroll processing * Strong understanding of management accounts * Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, data analysis) * Ability to work under pressure and manage tight month-end deadlines * High level of accuracy and attention to detail Salary & Working Hours: * Competitive salary (DOE) * 08:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday * Hybrid working: 3 days office / 2 days home
