Job Summary
Northern Containers is a well-established name in container hire, sales, and conversions across the UK. We are looking for a talented Fabricator/Welder to strengthen our workshop team. The role focuses on repairing and modifying shipping containers—turning them into bespoke storage solutions, workshops, or fully converted units—while maintaining the high standards our customers expect.
Role Overview
You'll primarily use MIG welding to repair and modify steel shipping containers—turning them into bespoke storage units, workshops, or fully converted spaces. Working closely with colleagues, you'll ensure each project meets our high-quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform MIG welding on steel containers for repairs and structural modifications.
* Carry out occasional TIG welding for finer or specialist tasks.
* Cut, shape, and assemble steel components using hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery.
* Read and interpret technical drawings and conversion specifications to deliver accurate results.
* Carry out quality checks on all completed work to ensure it meets company and customer standards.
* Collaborate with the workshop team to optimise workflow and uphold a safe working environment.
* Maintain tools and welding equipment, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
* Assist with fabrication tasks for container modifications, including fitting doors, windows, insulation, and internal structures.
Skills & Experience
* Strong MIG welding skills with proven fabrication experience (TIG welding ability desirable but not essential).
* Background in working with steel structures or similar heavy fabrication environments.
* Ability to troubleshoot issues and apply sound mechanical knowledge.
* Confident using hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery safely.
* Basic maths skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
* Comfortable working both independently and as part of a busy team.
