The starting salary for this position is £16,766 per annum based on an 18 hour working week, pro-rata to £33,552.

We are seeking a passionate Lead Tutor to deliver outreach and online Family Learning programmes for Surrey parents and carers for whom English is an additional language. This role plays a key part in supporting parents to improve their outcomes for their families through engaging courses and clear pathways to further and accredited learning.

Based at one of the Surrey Adult Learning centres, travel within Surrey to other centres and venues will be required. Hybrid working arrangements will be discussed at interview.

As a Lead Tutor in Outreach ESOL and Family Learning, your day might begin by liaising with community partners across Surrey, confirming arrangements for a school-based literacy session. You will deliver a mix of online and face-to-face ESOL and outreach sessions, including content on how education is delivered in England. You will be working closely with fellow Lead Tutors, to shape inclusive, high-quality programmes that support learners, particularly those new to life in the UK, to build confidence, engage with their communities, and progress onto formal ESOL courses. You will also contribute to curriculum development, assess learner starting points, monitor progress, and mentor tutors to strengthen their practice and develop new resources.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position your CV and answers to the questions below will clearly evidence:

Experience teaching Adults in Functional Skills and ESOL, ideally in an Ofsted-regulated setting and Supporting tutors to improve delivery quality.
A Level 3 or higher qualification in parenting, Functional Skills, or ESOL, alongside a recognised teaching qualification.
Confident use of IT, including online delivery.
Experience promoting and supporting learning programmes through outreach and community engagement.The role holder will need to have the willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of the role.
