The role focuses on designing and leading technical architecture for credit card or lending platforms in a large banking environment.The position is based in Sheffield with a hybrid model (3 days in the office).Role: Cards ArchitectContract Details; 6 months Location: Sheffield, UK (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)What the Role Involves In this role, the architect will: Design end-to-end technical solutions for banking card systems. Analyse business requirements (BRDs) and break them into MVPs and development stories. Lead the architecture design across applications, APIs, integrations, and cloud platforms. Work closely with business stakeholders, development teams, and external vendors. Ensure solutions follow enterprise architecture standards and governance. Manage technical risks, scalability, security, and high availability. Support and mentor technical teams. Contribute to technology roadmaps and digital banking strategy.Key Experience Required Candidates should ideally have: 15+ years of experience in software development/architecture. Strong experience with credit card processing or card platforms. Background in banking or financial services (especially cards or lending). Experience delivering large-scale enterprise solutions. Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Understanding of APIs, integrations, data architecture, and messaging systems. Experience designing secure, resilient, and highly available systems. Strong stakeholder communication and leadership skills.Nice-to-Have Skills Digital banking or retail banking platforms Full-stack solution architecture (Web, Mobile Apps, APIs, orchestration) Knowledge of mainframe environments Cloud certifications Strong cybersecurity awareness
