About the role

This role is a great opportunity for either a general or mental health nurse to ensure that their skills across both physical health and mental health grow. The Berkshire Clozapine Service is a busy, friendly and established service. The role will cover the whole of Berkshire, as we hold clinics in each of the six localities. Use of a car for work and a valid UK driving licence would be preferable.

Key responsibilities

The clozapine clinics run in different localities every day of the week, however the role will sometimes be based at our main base at Prospect Park Hospital dealing with queries and following up on actions from clinic, and on other days will be based in clinic performing venepuncture, physical health monitoring, monitoring the patient’s mental state, all of which have clear guidance to follow.

The working hours are Monday to Friday, 9 – 5pm and this role requires the candidate to be on site each day across various locations.

You will be responsible alongside the other clozapine team members for managing the care of the over three hundred individuals across Berkshire living with treatment resistant schizophrenia. You will be participating in clinics where you would be using your clinical skills including assessing the patient, venepuncture (training provided if needed) and motivational interviewing as you will often be the healthcare professional who is the main point of contact.

You will be dealing with patients, their carers, and various health professionals within the course of your role, so a commitment to developing the service that currently exists to enhance the care provided to patients by breaking down the barriers that traditionally exist between the various sectors of the health service would be welcomed. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

* A passion for improving the physical health of mental health patients.
* Strong organisational skills.
* Able to work effectively as part of a team with excellent communication skills.
