Offer description

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Learning Disability Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our team, supporting students with complex needs in Scunthorpe. If you're a compassionate and experienced professional with a passion for inclusive education and a strong desire to create meaningful change in students' learning and overall well-being, we want to hear from you.

About the Role & What You'll Do:

Our schools in Scunthorpe provide crucial support for students with a wide range of learning disabilities and complex needs, requiring a highly tailored and nurturing approach. As a TA in these dynamic environments, your role will be multifaceted, deeply rewarding, and involve providing essential one-on-one and small group support. You will be actively involved in:

* Facilitating Learning & Access: Supporting students to access the curriculum and achieve their individual learning goals. This includes adapting materials, reinforcing learning concepts, and assisting with academic tasks across various subjects, often linked to sensory or practical activities.

* Providing Personalised Care & Support: Assisting students with their personal care needs, mobility, and communication, ensuring their comfort, safety, and dignity throughout the school day.

* Managing Behaviour & Promoting Well-being: Utilising your understanding of various learning disabilities and associated needs to apply proactive strategies, build strong rapport, and effectively manage challenging situations. You'll help students develop self-regulation skills and foster a calm and supportive learning environment.

* Fostering Engagement & Participation: Employing creative, adaptive, and sensory-rich strategies to make learning accessible and enjoyable, helping students with complex needs to engage with their education and thrive.

* Creating a Nurturing & Inclusive Atmosphere: Building strong, trusting relationships with students, acting as a consistent and positive role model, and ensuring a supportive environment where every student feels valued, safe, and understood.

* Contributing to Holistic Development: Supporting not only academic progress but also students' social, emotional, and physical development through structured activities, positive reinforcement, and consistent guidance, often in line with therapeutic recommendations.

* Collaborating & Communicating Effectively: Working as a key part of a dedicated team alongside teachers, therapists (e.g., speech and language, occupational, physiotherapists), and other professionals. You'll play a vital role in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), communicating student progress and challenges effectively, and contributing to whole-school planning.

* Supporting Classroom Operations: Assisting teachers with preparing resources, organising the learning environment, and generally supporting the smooth running of the classroom.

You Will Have:

* Prior experience working with children or young people with learning disabilities and complex needs, ideally within a specialist school, special educational needs (SEN) unit, or similar setting.

* A strong understanding of various Special Educational Needs (e.g., profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with complex needs, communication difficulties) and effective, person-centred strategies for support.

* Experience with communication aids (e.g., PECS, Makaton) or a willingness to learn.

* Hold a valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.

* Two obtainable professional references that can attest to your suitability for this role.

* Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to support students with diverse and evolving needs across Scunthorpe as required.

* A patient, empathetic, resilient, and committed approach to supporting children with a wide range of differing learning abilities and personal care needs.

Working with Us, You Will Also Benefit From:

* Access to free, accredited Continued Professional Development (CPD) through our partnership with the National College, including vital training in areas like safeguarding, behaviour management, de-escalation techniques, and supporting complex needs.

* Competitive daily rates and weekly pay.

* Ongoing support and guidance from your dedicated consultant.

* The chance to make a profound and lasting impact on the lives of young people in a unique and incredibly rewarding educational environment.

If you're ready to make a significant difference and build a fulfilling career supporting vulnerable learners, get in contact today!
