About the role
1. The post holder will work closely with members of the Science Technician team supporting all subject areas within the Science Faculty.
2. Preparing, setting up and clearing equipment and materials for practical lessons.
3. Assisting in the demonstration and supervision of practical work when required.
4. As part of a team, maintain laboratories, equipment, apparatus, and stock levels.
5. Ensure the proper care, storage, transport and distribution of faculty resources.
6. Ensure the safe disposal of biological materials and chemicals.
7. Compliance with health and safety regulations and COSHH documentation by following risk assessment guidelines from CLEAPSS.
8. Organising and managing the preparation rooms efficiently and keeping up to date technician notes.
9. Assisting in the care and maintenance of living specimens where applicable.
10. Supporting and assisting teachers in designing new experiments, in line with curriculum changes.
11. Additional Duties:
12. Work with other members of the school community to contribute to the school improvement plan.
13. Undertake other duties that may reasonably be required by the Senior Science Technician.
14. The requirements of the post may vary from time to time without altering its essential nature or level of responsibility.
About you
15. A science qualification at A-Level or equivalent.
16. Previous experience as a Science Technician in a school or similar environment is preferable.
17. Good understanding of health and safety procedures in a laboratory setting.
18. Ability to react knowledgeably in potentially hazardous situations.
19. You need to be organised and methodical, enthusiastic and adaptable.
20. Be able to work independently and also communicate effectively as part of a team.
21. A flexible, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to supporting teaching staff and students.
22. Confidence in the use of IT and ideally be familiar with Google applications.
