Contract type: Permanent

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

Salary: £61,400

Closing date: Wednesday, 7 May 2025

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We are looking for 2 (two) Policy Advisers to join our team.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

The Policy & Partnerships department oversees Wellcome's policy and political engagement and forges partnerships that help us achieve our goals. We currently have two teams delivering impactful policy analysis and outputs, partnerships, and government dialogues: Policy, and Government Relations, and Strategic Partnerships (GRSP).

We are creating a new Policy Labs team to work alongside the existing Policy and GRSP teams. The Policy Labs team will enhance our work on UK and international science policy, spearheading initiatives to devise policy solutions for pressing issues relevant to our mission. Our existing Policy team will continue to focus on our three Solutions programmes: climate and health, mental health, infectious diseases, and global health financing. Both teams will collaborate closely to amplify our impact.

These two Policy Adviser roles are new, marking the expansion of our Policy Labs capacity. We anticipate further growth later this year, under a new team structure led by the Associate Director, Policy Labs.

Wellcome has expanded its interests in AI and data for science, and we welcome candidates with experience in policy topics in these areas, alongside broad domestic and global science policy issues.

What will I be doing?

You will lead parts of policy projects to help achieve Wellcome's goals in our Policy Labs work. This involves analyzing information, developing arguments, making recommendations, and creating policy materials.

As a Policy Adviser, you will:

* Develop project ideas, plans, and resource needs.
* Manage significant aspects of policy projects, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
* Engage with colleagues to develop communication and advocacy strategies.
* Build relationships with key stakeholders to support our work.
* Represent Wellcome in senior forums, establishing credibility.
* Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture, collaborating across departments.

Is this job for me?

If you're passionate about influencing policy nationally and globally, this role could be ideal. You should excel in building trusted relationships and delivering impactful policy recommendations. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, along with a willingness to learn, are essential.

You will work on policy development, support others through grants, and commission expert analysis. We seek someone eager to develop new policy specialisms aligned with Wellcome's interests and to undertake ambitious projects.

We are looking for someone who:

* Has proven ability to influence national governments or multilateral organizations.
* Is skilled at building trusted relationships and advising senior leaders.
* Has experience delivering high-quality policy recommendations and outputs.
* Can translate complex scientific information into clear policy solutions.
* Possesses strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
* Is self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent organizational skills.

To apply, submit an updated CV and answer 2 questions demonstrating your minimum requirements.

Minimum Criteria:

* Experience working on significant policy projects influencing government or multilateral organizations.
* Experience building trusted relationships with policy stakeholders and advising senior leaders for policy change.
* Proven ability to deliver high-quality policy recommendations and outputs.

Interview dates: 28, 29, and 30 May.
