We are looking for a qualified Counsellor to join our Surrey NHS Talking Therapies service. As a High Intensity Counsellor, you will excel in your clinical practice to fulfill all aspects of the role.


Main duties of the job

You will assess clients for suitability for specific psychological intervention models specified by the NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression Manual. You will treat clients with a presenting problem of depression or recurrent depression by delivering one of the NICE-recommended time-limited psychological therapy for depression. Work may also involve liaising with other health and social care staff to support your clients.

Job responsibilities

The closing date for this position is 11th July 2025; however, please note that this role may close early if sufficient applications are received, so early application is advised. This is a full-time position and will predominantly involve remote working, delivering therapy via video or telephone, but may require in-person therapy in Surrey. You will be expected to work at least one late night per week (12pm - 8pm). The salary is up to £45,000 per annum, subject to qualifications and experience, plus the Surrey Fringe Allowance.

To apply, you must have at least an NVQ Level 4 Counselling qualification and accreditation with either BACP, UKCP, or COCSA. It is essential that you have completed two years post-graduate qualification in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Psychotherapy, Counselling, or Counselling Psychology, with the required contact and supervising hours. Additionally, you should have completed at least one NICE-recommended training such as Counselling for Depression, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy, or Interpersonal Psychotherapy to deliver the specified modality.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Recognized professional counselling qualification to at least Diploma level (NVQ 4)
* Registration and accreditation with BACP, UKCP, or COSCA
* Completion of at least one NICE-recommended specialized training such as Counselling for Depression, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy, or Interpersonal Psychotherapy


Experience

* Experience in mental health services
* Experience with outcome monitoring
* Experience conducting risk assessments
* Understanding of anxiety and depression presentation in primary care
* Knowledge of relevant medication and legislation
* Ability to work evidence-based therapies and reflect professionally
* Strong communication skills and ability to manage caseloads effectively
