SEMH Session Leaders Alternative Provision
Making sure you fit the guidelines as an applicant for this role is essential, please read the below carefully.
Location: St Ives, Cambridgeshire
Contract: Immediate Start through to July 2026 (or Permanent)
My client is an SEMH (social, emotional, mental health) provision based in Cambridgeshire, focussed on outdoor experiences to build a toolkit of techniques, strategies and mechanisms to help each individual student thrive. The four main pillars that they work towards are emotional regulation, compliance, social integration and an appetite for learning and development, with the aim of reintegration at the centre of each student journey. Where they really differ from other intervention programmes is taking a child-led approach to education, acknowledging the rising demand of students requiring an alternative way of learning, not a one-size-fits-all structure.
They are currently looking to appoint several Session Leaders: The school day is 9.30am to 3,30pm and is broken into 2 Sessions. Each session will incorporate two planned 45-minute activities, referred to as planned activities.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES of Session Leaders include:
Physically leading student sessions with clear objectives and structure
Preparing, time managing and delivering student sessions
Creating balance between learning, life skills and fun in every session
Taking control of disciplinary actions wherever necessary - we see ourselves as working with the students and not above them, but ultimately you oversee the session, not the child
Being the responsible individual for safeguarding / health and safety compliance as discussed throughout your induction within your sessions
Reporting any immediate safety / safeguarding concerns directly to The Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) without hesitation
Completing daily reports reflecting on student sessions.
Responsibility for maintaining high standards with regards to cleanliness: surfaces, handwashing, sanitising etc.
Clearing up all session activities you have taken part in throughout the day - this means thorough cleaning and not just clearing. Spaces and resources are shared and should be left as youd wish to find them; this is also a key part of the student runner role
Ensuring workspaces and kitchen facilities are left clean and tidy after downtime and session time usage - please keep your personal belongings tidy as much as possible and clear up after lunch times
Being a positive role model for your students
Care around animals and interaction with them on a frequent basis
Where appropriate, cooking is a large part of the curriculum; If your student is willing and able to cook, we expect this to be encouraged
