The City of York Council, York Learning team is looking for an appropriately qualified, experienced and motivated tutor to teach English. This is likely to be a combination of online teaching and face to face sessions in community venues. You will need to be available for at least one evening per week.
You will be working within a small, creative team to engage learners and deliver the English curriculum (Entry Level to Level 2/GCSE) to adults aged 19+. You should be able to demonstrate awareness of both the rewards and the specific challenges of working with adult learners. You may be asked to work with people aged 16 – 25 or adults with additional needs.
Excellent IT skills are required and have a good understanding of online platforms including Zoom and Google Classroom.
You may be asked to support apprentices which may require visits to their workplace so own transport is desirable.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
