Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - ICCR

The closing date is 30 June 2026.

We have an exciting vacancy for a clinical/counselling psychologist with substantial experience post‑qualification within our Integrated Community Care and Recovery Services. The post will be 0.4 with a vibrant community mental health team and 0.6 with the enhanced team for personality disorders, both located in the Solihull Hub. This is an ideal post to apply your full range of psychological skills and knowledge including consultation, training, supervision, service development, leadership and research in addition to direct clinical work.

You will provide a range of clinical services, conduct complex case assessment and formulation, and apply evidence‑based psychological interventions, both individual and in groups, for service users with complex mental health and behavioural needs including those with personality disorders, complex trauma, psychosis, neurodiversity, autism or learning disabilities. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contribute to service innovation, and support the transformation of our community services.

Training / Qualifications

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology
  • Registration for Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
  • Training/additional qualifications in an accredited therapy model e.g. CBT, EMDR, DBT

Experience

  • Substantial experience working in Secondary Care Mental Health services
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment in at least two different types of care settings
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or clinical supervision
  • Experience of working with service users presenting with personality difficulties, complex trauma or psychosis
  • Experience of developing and running group based interventions for clinical problems
  • Experience working with service users presenting with neurodiversity, autism or learning disablities

Knowledge and Skills

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment commensurate with recent doctoral level training
  • Skills in the formulation of problems from a psychological perspective and the implementation of interventions for complex presenting issues
  • High‑level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies

Personal

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, and to reflect on and manage own emotions and those of others when faced with highly distressing material and/or challenging behaviour
  • Ability to work independently, reliably, consistently and with initiative, seeking guidance when necessary under agreed objectives
  • Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively
  • Personal experience of mental health problems (e.g. personal or as a carer/family member)

£57,528 to £64,750 a year, pro rata.
