Job Description – 1:1 Teaching Assistant

About the Role
We are seeking motivated, caring, and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistants to provide high-quality support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across two inclusive and welcoming primary schools in the heart of Salisbury. Pupils requiring support may present with a range of needs, including communication difficulties, ASC traits, learning delays, or social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
Both schools are looking for educators who not only bring strong SEN experience, but who are also keen to become an integral part of their wider school community—someone invested in whole-school values, collaborative practice, and positive relationships with staff, pupils, and families.
Key Responsibilities
1:1 Pupil Support
Provide tailored, consistent support to an individual pupil with SEN, adapting strategies as required.
Implement support plans and guidance provided by the SENCO, class teachers, and external professionals.
Promote the pupil’s independence, confidence, and engagement in learning.
Classroom & Learning Support
Assist the class teacher in delivering appropriate learning activities.
Adapt materials and tasks to make learning accessible and achievable.
Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.
Behaviour & Wellbeing
Use positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and social development.
Encourage pupil participation, resilience, and self-esteem.
Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and any concerns.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff across both schools.
Maintain open, professional communication with all stakeholders.
Contribute to meetings, reviews, and discussions relating to the pupil’s needs.
Community Contribution
Engage actively in the wider life of each school.
Uphold and promote the school values, culture, and ethos.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
