Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead a specialist Overhaul Department within a growing engineering business in Stroud.This hands-on role focuses on the overhaul and maintenance of variable pitch propellers used in a wide range of aircraft. It's ideally suited to someone who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship, and quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the end-to-end propeller overhaul process
* Disassemble and clean components for inspection
* Carry out visual and dimensional checks using tools such as micrometers, verniers, and height gauges
* Identify and replace worn or damaged parts
* Perform zinc-nickel plating on components when required
* Prepare and balance blades for painting
* Rebuild propellers to strict specifications
* Maintain accurate records for all overhaul activity
* Supervise junior team members and maintain a tidy workshop environment
Lead Mechanical Engineer Job Requirements
* Strong mechanical engineering knowledge
* Experience in aerospace or aviation engineering is a bonus
* Proficiency with technical drawings and measurement instruments
* Practical, hands-on engineering skills
* High attention to detail and quality standards
* Ability to work independently and within a small team
* Positive, proactive attitude
* Interest in aviation or heritage engineering is a bonus
* Must be based locally and within a commutable distance to Stroud
Lead Mechanical Engineer Salary & Benefits
* £40,000 - £44,700 per year
* Full-time, Permanent
* Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (40 hours/week)
* 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
* Company pension
