Hutcheon Mearns are delighted to be supporting an innovative, high-growth technology business to recruit for the role of Assistant Accountant on a full-time, permanent basis (hybrid) to join their small Finance Team (5) in Dundee. A new role, the new Assistant Accountant will report into the Financial Controller. This position has been created through business growth into new territories and recent implementation of a new accountancy software system. The business specialises in providing technology solutions to enable sustainable practices in their market. The Opportunity As the Assistant Accountant, your responsibilities will include: Team Collaboration Establish credibility and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders Contribute to cross-functional projects focused on improving overall company performance Accounting Reporting Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports Record financial transactions in accounting journals Support the preparation of trial balances and monthly management accounts Prepare VAT returns Support/oversee the preparation of overseas VAT returns Prepare monthly reporting packs for managements, departments and cost centres - including variance analysis Analyse financial data to highlight underlying trends and report any issues Assist with Research and Development grant claims and prepare consolidated timesheets for capitalisation of labour costs for review Payroll (Desirable, not essential) Take ownership of monthly UK payroll processing for review by Financial Controller Coordinate year-end payroll activities Liaise with external payroll providers for overseas payroll processing and compliance Treasury Cash Management Prepare weekly group cash flow forecasts for review with Group Reporting Accountant and Financial Controller Cost Control Efficiency Actively contribute to identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities Budgeting Forecasting Assist with budgeting and forecasting of financial performance Support ad-hoc reporting as requested by the Group Reporting Accountant or Financial Controller Financial Systems Technology Maintain accurate master data for trade suppliers, including credit terms, discounts and product details Ensure finance master data is accurately reflected in the ERP system Control Framework, systems Compliance Ensure adherence to relevant accounting standards and regulations Provide support to internal and external auditors Assist in the preparation and submission of Corporation Tax and RD Tax returns Stay up-to-date with the latest accounting standards and best practices Responsibilities currently managed by Finance Assistant, but understanding and support may be beneficial: Bookkeeping and accurate record-keeping Reconciling bank statements, accounts payable, and receivable Data entry, invoice processing, and admin tasks Customer and supplier invoice/payment support Payment processing and expense tracking Maintaining sales and purchase ledgers The Successful Candidate You will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices. Strong communication skills, a problem solving mentality and ability to work to deadlines, will all be essential skills for this role. Experience using Microsoft Business Central (formerly NAV) would be highly advantageous but not essential. Strong IT skills and the ability to utilise Microsoft Excel proficiently are required.
