Laboratory Technician – UEA
Join the Davidson Lab at the School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia (UEA), located in Colney, England, United Kingdom. This on‑site, full‑time position starts 1 February 2026 and runs for 30 months.
Salary
£26,707 per annum, with an annual increment up to £30,378 per annum.
Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Technician you will:
* Optimise culturing protocols and isolate microbial strains for probiotic development.
* Perform in vitro assays, phenotypic and biochemical testing.
* Execute DNA extraction and prepare samples for next‑generation sequencing.
* Manage sample collections and databases, keeping detailed laboratory notes and reporting results to the PI and colleagues.
* Maintain a clean and organised laboratory environment and participate in departmental seminars and activities.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience in microbiology and handling bacterial cultures.
* Proficiency with in vitro assays and phenotypic/biochemical testing.
* Experience in DNA extraction and next‑generation sequencing sample preparation.
* Knowledge of unit conversion and dilutions.
* Background in database management and basic R programming is advantageous.
* Experience with probiotics and related laboratory skills is a plus.
