Role Overview
The Security team will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all patients, staff, and the general public at Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Glasgow. This is achieved by providing a secure and supportive environment that balances essential security measures with the need to maintain a therapeutic atmosphere.
The security team will provide 24/7 security cover and will be expected to respond to emergency and ad-hoc incidents, providing presence as required via pagers, phone calls, or verbal report. The post holder will work unsupervised, using their own initiative to respond to competing demands and priorities, dynamically assessing each incident and applying violence‑reduction and de‑escalation techniques in line with NHSGGC policies and legislation.
Regular supervision is provided whilst on duty; the post holder will also liaise with senior ward staff or service managers as needed.

* Part‑time positions available: 1x 30 hours, 2x 22 hours
* Location: Royal Alexandra Hospital
* Permanent contract
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure the risks of a security incident are minimized, including routine patrols across the site.
* Respond to emergency security alerts in a timely manner.
* When first alerted to a situation, use knowledge and expertise to maintain patient, staff, and visitor safety, consulting more senior personnel at the earliest opportunity.
* Provide security, protection, safety, and support to staff, patients, and visitors within the hospital campus.
* Remove individuals from the hospital site when they pose a risk to patient care or others.
* Enforce the non‑smoking policy and ensure staff, patients, and visitors move away from entrances as required.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and Experience
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent customer care skills.
* Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team.
* IT skills.
* Completion of internal training programme covering hold and restraint, breakaway techniques, conflict management, de‑escalation, detainment, restraint, AWI, CCTV, and GDPR.
* Knowledge of NHSGGC security policies and procedures.
* Terrorism awareness training in line with ACT.
