Would you like a job in the largest hospital in the South West as a Specialist Area Lead Radiographer? Do you have strong clinical/ leadership skills in general radiography & want to develop an essential imaging service?
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As an Area Lead Radiographer you will provide clinical excellence, liaise with all service users, lead service development and manage the day‑to‑day organisation of the clinical area whilst consistently providing effective and efficient leadership. You will support the X‑Ray Theatre and Mobile Imaging service, oversee an equipment management programme, and act as Radiographer‑in‑charge on a rolling rota of duties. You will also provide teaching, training, and supervision for undergraduate and apprentice radiographers and support the wider team.
The role requires the following clinical and leadership responsibilities:
 * Maintain high standards of clinical care for patients under your management and support colleagues to do likewise.
 * Carry out the full range of radiographic duties to the required standard and maintain imaging competencies.
 * Show competence in Radiology Information System, Hospital Information Systems, PACS, and routine diagnostic techniques.
 * Interpret clinical information, support examinations, and query indications where appropriate.
 * Provide effective communication with patients and carers, including those with learning disabilities or other special needs.
 * Participate in working parties to develop policy and protocol changes and ensure their implementation.
 * Work with consultants and the head of service to develop strategic and operational management plans for the imaging service to outpatients.
 * Teach, train, supervise, and manage performance of junior radiographers, support workers, apprentices, and students, using formal appraisal and assessment.
This position carries a commitment to Agenda for Change compliant 7‑day working at Derriford Hospital and peripheral sites, with flexible hours across the week.

Qualifications and Experience
 * Current HCPC registration
 * BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
 * Willingness to maintain own development and encourage others to do likewise
Desirable
 * Willingness to undertake Leadership course
 * Post‑graduate qualification
 * Awareness of NHS policies and documents
 * Leading experience of Equipment Management programmes
 * Experience at Band 7 leadership level within an acute healthcare setting
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
 * Extensive post‑graduate demonstrable experience across Theatre and Mobile Imaging and all areas of general radiography
 * Previous experience at a senior level within Imaging
 * Experience teaching, appraising and supervising junior staff / students and apprentices
 * Working understanding of current radiation protection regulations
 * Ability to manage a broad range of personalities and HR issues
 * Ability to establish rapport with patients, especially children, and produce electronic data and documents required for assurance and accreditation work
