Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: Competitive (based on experience)
Department: Engineering Design
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced EC&I Design Engineer to join our growing engineering design team, based in either Swansea or Hull.
You’ll play a key role in delivering complex, safety-critical design projects across a wide range of industries, including Top Tier COMAH sites, chemical, manufacturing, and utilities facilities throughout the UK.
You’ll take ownership of EC&I design deliverables, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with IEC and relevant UK standards. The role suits someone already established in EC&I design who can lead work packages, review peer outputs and engage confidently with clients and vendors.
We also offer access to our dedicated industrial electrical training facility and in-house CompEx training services, supporting your continued professional development in a hands-on, practical environment.
· Prepare and check detailed C&I design documentation from P&IDs, process layouts, and client specifications.
· Develop and review C&I drawings — including cable routing, block diagrams, loop sheets, and hook-ups.
· Design and specify control panels, including GA layouts and wiring schematics.
· Create and verify C&I schedules, including I/O, cable, and instrument lists.
· Perform design calculations (IS, power, voltage drop, and heat loss).
· Liaise with clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
· Support and lead site surveys, FATs, and commissioning activities.
· Ensure all work complies with ATEX, COMAH, and ISO 9001 quality standards.
· Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of company design standards and practices.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
· HNC / HND in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent).
· 5+ years’ experience in C&I or EC&I design within industrial or process sectors.
· Proficient in AutoCAD and capable of producing detailed design deliverables.
· Strong understanding of control principles and instrumentation.
· Excellent communication and organisational skills.
· Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
* Apprentice-trained in electrical or instrumentation disciplines.
* Experience producing design dossiers (loop drawings, cable schedules, IS calculations, hook-ups, datasheets).
* Experience in control panel design, including layouts and wiring schematics.
* CompEx-certified or experienced in the design of hazardous area installations.
* Familiarity with the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
* Knowledge of functional safety and machinery safety principles.
Why Join Us
