Due to the school’s continued growth, we are seeking to appoint an inspiring Head of Lower Prep (KS2) to start in August 2026.
The successful candidate will be able to make a significant contribution in helping establish the Lower Prep Department for Cheltenham Muscat as the best in the city. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong teacher to become part of the team that will establish Cheltenham Muscat as the leading school in Oman.

The School
Cheltenham Muscat opened in September 2021 and is Oman’s first, premium, British school, for boys and girls aged 3 to 18. Set on an outstanding state‑of‑the‑art campus, students and teachers at Cheltenham Muscat benefit from world‑class facilities for both academic and co‑cultural learning as well as strong support from our partner school Cheltenham College, who have been providing exceptional education for students for over 180 years.
The Person
We are looking for a committed teacher who is passionate about their work and motivated by the opportunity to inspire our wonderful students. Reporting to the Head of Prep School, the Head of Lower Prep (KS2) will create a climate and culture within Lower Prep that embeds the school’s values and ethos. They are responsible for promoting and securing the highest possible standards of pupil progress within their phase by setting high expectations for colleagues and students alike. The Head of Lower Prep will also support the Principal in the promotion of the school and the admission of children to Cheltenham Muscat.
They will contribute to the overall strategic direction of the School through close collaboration with the Head of Upper Prep and the Head of Prep-prep. The role will suit talented and ambitious candidates who have delivered consistently outstanding outcomes for children in a primary, prep or all‑through school setting, either in the UK and/or overseas. Previous leadership experience is advantageous but not essential.
Leadership
* Be available to advise and assist staff with matters involving parents, pupils and colleagues;
* Support the arrangement of induction processes for new Lower Prep staff;
* Lead and oversee phase meetings and report back to the Head of Prep;
* Audit resources and contribute to the creation of the annual overseas teaching resource order;
* Ensure there is a high profile for the phase within the school and through parent communications/events;
* Support the Director of Co‑curricular with all events including ECAs, trips, events and activities.
Academic
* Be a strong role‑model as an exceptional classroom practitioner;
* Be committed to ongoing professional development and leading in‑house CPD;
* Mentor staff, arrange, coordinate and contribute to performance reviews;
* Provide support for Lower Prep form teachers as needed;
* Carry out pupil progress meetings to review the performance of students across the phase;
* Ensure that teachers maintain an overview of each student’s academic progress over time, planning intervention and support with the class teacher as necessary;
* Supervise the preparation and proof‑reading of termly reports;
* Support other members of the leadership team in evaluating the quality of teaching and learning across the Lower Prep phase;
* Teach a class within Grades 3‑5 with a reduced timetable.

Safeguarding Responsibilities
* To comply with all safeguarding policies and procedures and ensure that any safeguarding concerns are reported in line with policy.
* To demonstrate a personal commitment to safeguarding and wellbeing.
* To engage fully in all safeguarding training as required.
Pastoral Care
* Ensure that Lower Prep provision is compliant with all legislation in child protection matters;
* Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and liaise as appropriate with the DSL;
* Ensure that pastoral data is recorded & monitored effectively by all teachers within the phase;
* Monitor patterns of behaviour over time, ensuring timely interventions are in place;
* Ensure a well‑planned and clearly communicated pastoral programme is in place, reflecting UK good practice and incorporating the Cheltenham 5Cs;
* Lead the transition process at the end of the year for all pupils progressing from one year to the next, including transition arrangements across the Phases.
Parent Communication
* To be fully involved with the school’s parent engagement programme ensuring that all parents are well informed about their child’s curriculum, timetable, progress and attitude to learning;
* Support the organisation and lead parent meetings as appropriate to the phase;
* Actively engage the parent body within the Lower Prep phase, arranging opportunities for parents to visit school and ensuring they are efficiently informed at all times.
Professional Standards
* To attend assemblies, parents’ evenings, school functions and other staff meetings as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.
* To recognise the importance of being an exemplary role model to all children within the School.
* To maintain high standards of professional behaviour in accordance with the school ethos, including timekeeping and personal presentation.
* To take personal responsibility for evaluating and reflecting upon your teaching in order to continually develop and improve your practice.
* To always maintain professional and productive relationships with colleagues.
* To fulfil any reasonable additional responsibilities as requested by the Executive Principal.
