The Communications Manager is a key role within the marketing team, responsible for driving the strategic direction and delivery of all communications activities within Heylo. The role encompasses internal communications, customer communications, and external or corporate communications, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s purpose, ‘helping aspiring homeowners and renters find a place to call home.’
Reporting to the Marketing Director and working in close collaboration with the wider Marketing team, this role requires a matrix approach to foster synergy across departments while maintaining consistency in brand voice, customer and stakeholder engagement, and crisis communications.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Lead the development of customer-focused communication strategies across digital and traditional channels, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s mission and values.
* Oversee the management of customer-facing content, including website updates, events, and other outreach materials, ensuring a consistent brand tone of voice and user experience.
* Partner with the Marketing team to design and deliver campaigns that build customer trust, loyalty, and satisfaction.
* Drive innovation in customer communications, leveraging insights, data, and new technologies to meet customer needs effectively.
* Support customer events, including planning, messaging, and on-the-day delivery.
Internal Communications
* Develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications strategy to inform, engage, and inspire staff at all levels.
* Ensure regular, clear, and consistent communication of organisational updates, initiatives, and priorities through appropriate channels (e.g., intranet, newsletters, town halls, email updates).
* Partner with HR to support employee engagement campaigns, and Heylo’s culture initiatives.
External and Corporate Communications
* Work with the Marketing Director on corporate communications efforts, including stakeholder engagement, investor relations, public relations, and crisis communications.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including government bodies, industry partners and media outlets.
* Work with the Marketing Director to develop and deliver communications strategies that promote Heylo’s reputation and thought leadership in the shared ownership housing sector.
* Manage crisis communication plans and lead response efforts.
Person Specification Capabilities and Experience
The candidate will have:
* Proven experience in a related communications role, preferably within the housing sector or property related field.
* Ideally expertise across internal, customer, and corporate communications functions.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with senior leaders and external partners.
* Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
* A strategic thinker with hands-on experience in delivering communication initiatives.
* Ability to manage crisis communications and navigate challenging situations with professionalism and calmness.
* Collaborative mindset with experience working in cross-functional teams.
* Knowledge of the shared ownership housing sector or affordable housing market.
* Familiarity with digital communication platforms, tools, and best practices
* Experience in event management or supporting high-profile stakeholder events.

Salary and benefits
Hours of work:Full-time 39 hours per week with the ability to work up to 60 days a year home working. In this role, we expect there to be a degree of travel and flexibility, with some evening and weekend working as necessary.
Holiday:25 days a year plus English Bank Holidays
