An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Ipswich Hospital in the musculoskeletal team. We are inviting applications for a full time, Consultant with a special interest in Early Inflammatory Arthritis.
The Rheumatology Department at Ipswich provided adult Rheumatology services for patients across Ipswich and East Suffolk. The department runs outreach clinics in Felixstowe General Hospital, Aldeburgh Cottage Hospital and health centres in Stowmarket, and Hartismere in eye, in addition to clinics within the trust and rheumatology outpatient.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
1. Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of care
2. Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
3. Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients and A&E
4. Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care
5. Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

We are also now building a £7million specialist interventional radiology and cardiac angiography unit at Colchester.
At Ipswich we are investing £35million in a new Emergency Department and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, with additional diagnostic imaging kit (MRI and CT). There’s a £5.3million molecular diagnostic laboratory soon to open at Ipswich, and works begins soon for a new Breast Care Centre and a Children’s Unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities are:
6. General responsibilities including participation in Consultant on call rota
7. Specialist Clinics

10. Other care of inpatients or outpatients
11. Clinical and other administration as required by agreement
12. Teaching and training of junior staff and undergraduates
13. Participation in Clinical Governance
The job plan is expected to consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), clinical Pas and core SPAs. The exact details of job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate after their appointment.
Full clinic will be expected to have equivalent of 12 follow up 2n and 8 follow up or 3 and Six follow ups) the new to follow up ratio will depend on the needs of the department.
The appointee will be expected to undertake in Consultant on Call rota which covers referrals from the wards and GP calls between 9am-5pm. There are no evening or weekend on call commitments.

Essential criteria
14. MRCP (UK)
15. Specialist accreditation or within 6 months of attaining CCT
16. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Rheumatology.
17. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
18. Ability to perform core and specialised Rheumatology procedures
19. Ability to work in a team
20. Enquiring, critical approach to work.
21. Educational/Clinical Supervisor (the necessary training will be provided for applicants that have not undertaken these roles previously)
22. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a wide range of Rheumatology problems
Desirable criteria
23. Higher degree MD/ PhD
24. Recognised fellowship training
25. Management training and experience
26. Live within a 10-mile radius of the relevant hospital site
