Social Workers - Children's Practice Teams

Various locations

Salary: £39,129 - £46,023 (pro-rata for part time)
Hours: 36 per week (part time hours considered)

We have vacancies in Edinburgh's four practice teams:

* North East – based in Leith and Niddrie
* North West – based in Drumbrae and Muirhouse
* South East – based in Liberton/Gilmerton
* South West – based in Wester Hailes

We believe that every child and young person deserves the best possible start in life. Our aim is for Edinburgh's children to be safe, healthy, nurtured, educated, active and respected.

Our children's practice teams are at the forefront of providing services to help children, young people and their families deal with difficult situations at various stages in their lives: whether in need of child protection; looked after at or away from home; or at risk of becoming excluded from school or becoming looked after.

This is an exciting time to join Edinburgh. We are in the process of implementing a new service structure which will ensure that Edinburgh is at the forefront of social work practice. We are about to move our case management platform to Mosaic which will mean that our social workers have an effective and efficient case management system, saving time and reducing administration, all with the aim of providing our social workers with more time to see children and work alongside families to bring about positive change. We are also exploring how we can incorporate AI tools into our work.

Whether you are newly qualified or experienced, all new social workers will receive a personalised induction process, a named mentor, access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities and regular supervision from a Team Leader.

For newly qualified workers we will support you through your Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) Supported Year with a restricted caseload, supervision every 1-2 weeks and all the tailored support and developmental opportunities you need to excel in your new role. Further opportunities will be available to help you advance in your career with us.

For experienced workers we offer excellent opportunities to use your skills and experience to support great practice with opportunities for career development and advancement. Caseloads within Edinburgh are set at a maximum number to ensure that social workers have the time to do their jobs well. Our practice is supported by Practice Standards which provide clarity on expectations to ensure the best service for children, young people and families.

Candidates can state a preference for which team they would like to be based in at the interview stage.

Applicants must hold a Social Work qualification recognised by the SSSC.

Further information is available on our website. If you would like to have an informal discussion about the posts, please email alan.kirkpatrick@edinburgh.gov.uk or billy.brown@edinburgh.gov.uk or telephone Alan on 0131 453 9130 or Billy on 07799 582693.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we're changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours - The City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Happy to talk flexible working.
