Manages a complex and diverse caseload of communication and dysphagia independently within the Learning Disabilities Service.

· Provides clinical advice and support to less experienced Speech and LanguageTherapists.

Supervises the work of Speech and Language Therapists, Speech & Language Therapy Assistants, students andvolunteers.

· Contributes to local service audit andresearch.

Person specification


Qualifications / training

* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
* HCPC license to practice
* Registered with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Dysphagia Post Graduate Qualification


Experience

* Experience as a qualified therapist with significant relevant experience in specialist area.


Skills/knowledge

* Competent to use evidence base to inform clinical practice in a specialist area.
* Knowledge of the needs of a diverse population and the impact on communication and swallowing problems.
* Competent to develop specialist programmes of care.
* Competent in developing empathy, negotiation and influencing skills with emerging clinical leadership.
* Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and overcomes barriers to communication.
* Competent in managing and balancing a range of risks to maximise patient care.
* Competent in writing clear reports and notes to a professional standard.
* Competent in using alternative means of communication appropriately for care group.


Other job requirements

* Is able and willing to move around the city.
* Must have a full driving license and access to a vehicle
* Is able to carry a variety of equipment between locations safely.

In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.

Please note that the majority of non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Band 3 - 5) with the exception of those which appear on this list - link, will not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK.

All non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Bands 6 - 9) that meet the prescribed salary threshold will be eligible for sponsorship.

The Trust will accept applications from candidates who can evidence their right to work in the UK or via alternative visa routes.
